SML RFID Opens New Retail Ideation Space in Shanghai, China

A Fully Immersive Retail Experimental Space

25 September 2019, Shanghai, China – SML, the world’s leading provider of full-service item-level RFID solutions, has today announced the launch of its second Retail Ideation Space (RIS) in Shanghai, China. At the opening ceremony, SML’s global executives will join together at Shanghai RIS to showcase the cutting edge item-level RFID technologies and applications to Jinshan Government leaders, business partners and retail end users. SML also takes this opportunity to launch its one-stop-shop solution brand RFID TotalCare™ to the China Market.

Immersive RFID Experience Space

In today’s fast-changing retail market landscape, the key to success for retailers is to simplify and dramatically improve inventory accuracy within their supply chain and stores using item-level RFID technology. Retailers and brand owners are adopting the technology at an accelerating rate, with many additional retailers coming on board in 2020.

Retailers are achieving significant ROIs based on inventory accuracy and enhancing customer experience within their stores. RIS Shanghai aims to help retailers and brand owners to remain competitive in today’s complex market and collaborate with retailers on how to accelerate the digital transformation and business value creation based on SML’s item-level RFID technology. “No dimension, no boundaries, unleashing the retail potential” is the theme of this opening ceremony, which means the unlimited potential of RFID technology for the retail industry.

“We are very pleased that the Retail Ideation Space was established in Shanghai. The establishment of RIS not only represents SML Group’s confidence in the China retail market but also fully demonstrates SML’s comprehensive portfolio of technologies, one-stop-shop solutions and service capabilities, which assists retailers in achieving new levels of efficiency, creating measurable business value,” comments Mr. Ignatius Lau, Vice Chairman and CEO at SML Group.

The Shanghai RIS is the second global site after the opening of Plano RIS in Texas, USA in June this year. In Shanghai RIS, SML’s RFID experts will collaborate with its world-class technology partners, including Microsoft, Bluebird, iData, Impinj, NXP, Zebra and others to demonstrate to retailers how SML’s Item-level RFID solutions can simplify adoption and maximize business value across a range of retail environment.

SML Shanghai RIS is divided into five unique components, based on different application scenarios: a storefront, a back room, a distribution center, a convenience store and a labeling area known as Packaging & Trims Ideation Studio where the creative services team can collaborate with retailers and brand owners in designing tailored EPC UHF RFID or non-RFID labels and packaging. Modeling the actual and complete life cycle of a product, from label and packaging design to the flow of retail supply chain. Meanwhile, Shanghai RIS will also host regular workshops with retailers and brand owners to showcase the latest retail technology, offering retailers an immersive space to experience, explore, learn, test and customize their RFID solutions.

According to Dean Frew, CTO and SVP of RFID Solutions at SML Group: “Our team is working closely with those innovative retailers and brand owners globally to configure and deploy SML’s item-level RFID solutions and deliver a significant ROI for them. We are also continuing to explore and innovate the latest retail technology, demonstrating the technical achievement and business value of applications of SML within our RIS facilities.
