Fifth Industry Day as part of IoT Week Korea 2018 will take place the same week oneM2M plans to publish its latest set of specifications
Seoul, South Korea, 29 August, 2018: The benefits of interoperability and interworking in advancing the Internet of Things (IoT) will be highlighted by oneM2M, the global IoT standards initiative, during IoT Week Korea in September.
oneM2M will mark its fifth Industry Day in South Korea as the number of South Korean IoT service subscribers reaches close to 6 million, according to data from the Ministry of Science and ICT. The country’s three largest operators SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ have already deployed oneM2M-based IoT platforms, highlighting, says oneM2M, the importance of standardisation in nurturing large scale IoT deployments.
“While the IoT is gaining momentum worldwide, South Korea is at the forefront when it comes to real-world implementations based on standards, which encourage mass adoption, giving it a leading position in the race to unlocking the IoT’s full potential,” said Jae Moon Park, President of Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA). “That is why IoT Week Korea is a great platform to showcase how standards such as oneM2M’s can truly create an interoperable, secure IoT ecosystem, not only in South Korea, but across the globe.”
The Industry Day – which will take place at the COEX Convention Center, in Seoul, on Friday, September 14 – will include a presentation from LG CNS on how it is using oneM2M’s specification in its IoT Platform INFioT, which is being used in its latest smart city management platform Cityhub. The platform is designed to play the role of a brain for a smart city by collecting and analysing data generated and sent by various city infrastructures via IoT technology.
Busan, the second-largest city in South Korea, is another example of a smart city which uses the oneM2M platform to deliver more than 26 smart city services to its 3.6 million population.
oneM2M’s latest release of specifications Release 3 – which will introduce new IoT interoperability and interworking capabilities – will also be discussed. The release is expected to bring new opportunities for mobile operators looking to monetize IoT services.
A presentation from Telecom Italia on the deployment of oneM2M for smart cities and its experience of using Mobius[1], the oneM2M server implementation, will be given at the Industry Day. Other companies which will present include ETSI, Nokia, Qualcomm, iREXNET, Sensinov, Convida Wireless, KETI and TTA.
The Industry Day, which will be hosted by TTA, is just part of oneM2M’s participation in IoT Week Korea. ETSI’s Director General Mr. Luis Jorge Romero will present “Too many standards for the IoT? (oneM2M)” at 14:40 on Wednesday, September 12 as part of the show’s IoT International Conference.
