Skipton and Manchester, UK, 17 October 2019: Gaist, a multi-award-winning highway surveying and mobile mapping solutions provider, has been presented with the Technical Innovation award at the INCA Golds Awards 2019, recognising the continuing ground-breaking success of its solutions for the telecommunications sector.
The prestigious award emphasises the technical ingenuity showcased in Gaist’s support of a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) Nationwide Roll-out project, which saw Gaist provide a highly detailed footway and carriageway condition analysis of more than 18,000 kilometres to assist with the planning and design of fibre roll-out in cities around the UK. The project recently hit the milestone of providing fibre connectivity to more than one million homes in collaboration with one of the UK’s leading alternative providers.

The INCA Golds Awards ceremony, held last night in Manchester, celebrated the network builders, operators and other independents working hard to improve the UK’s digital infrastructure.
In more than 20 cities, Gaist’s technologies enabled the provider to increase forecasting (business case) accuracy and reduce the impact of unexpected delays, while optimising its design and ensuring budgets were adhered to. By analysing images through artificial intelligence, machine learning and human inspection, Gaist identified different material types and assigned each section of the network with a polygon that related to the relevant surface material. As a result, Gaist helped ensure this project was successful first time.
“Traditionally, service providers have had to rely on manual surveys or guesswork when carrying out projects. Gaist’s solutions have revolutionised this process by ensuring minimal deployment costs, reducing delays and disruptions and mitigating safety risks. The Gaist survey and analysis solution is shown to be 70% more cost effective than comparable survey data in the Highways sector and results in efficiency gains and costs saved, which have been calculated at 10 per cent for a minimal cost of 0.01 per cent of the project cost.
