Schimenti Construction to unveil nine new stores at Grand Re-Opening of World Trade Center

NEW YORK, Aug. 15, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Schimenti Construction will play a major role in the August 16 Grand Re-Opening of the World Trade Center as the retail construction firm will showcase nine new stores at the launch event.

Schimenti Construction served as the general contractor for nine stores in the Oculus, a 78,000 square foot retail and dining centerpiece of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub.

Continuing its legacy as the preferred contractor of major retail brands, Schimenti Construction developed retail space for Banana Republic, H&M, Fossil, Victoria’s Secret, Under Armour, COS, Breitling, & Other Stories, and Cole Haan.

Schimenti Construction, founded in 1994, has built a strong reputation in the retail construction industry and has developed a solid niche in urban construction. The firm, headquartered in Ridgefield, Connecticut with offices in New York City, builds retail shopping environments for some of the nation’s leading brands.

The company has recently been named to the Engineering News-Record (ENR) 2016 Top 400 Contractors Report and the ENR Top New York Contractors Report.

The new Westfield World Trade Center hopes to transform downtown shopping with over half a million square feet of new retail, appealing to a large and diversified audience of international and local visitors. Offerings include boutiques and specialty stores along with convenience retail and malls that feature leading global brands.

When completed the state-of-the-art World Trade Center Transportation Hub will serve 250,000 daily commuters and millions of annual visitors from around the world. At approximately 800,000 square feet, the Hub will be the third largest transportation center in New York City, rivaling Grand Central Station in size. The Hub’s concourse will connect visitors to 11 different subway lines, the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rail system, Battery Park City Ferry Terminal, the World Trade Center Memorial Site, WTC Towers 1, 2, 3, and 4, the World Financial Center and the Winter Garden.

It will represent the most integrated network of underground pedestrian connections in New York City.

The August 16 Family Day celebration will start at 12 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. and feature activities throughout the center’s retail stores, hourly stage performances in the Oculus by a host of cultural icons and arts organizations, as well as samplings from the center’s amazing selection of food vendors.
