Containerized public and private network infrastructure will enable Intranets of Things, integrated enterprise communications, and provide roadmap to 5G

Camberley, UK and Victoria, BC, 2 September 2016 – Quortus and Expeto today announced a co-operation that will speed the deployment of innovative communications services by wireless internet service providers (WISPs), mobile and virtual network operators (MNOs and MVNOs), and Internet of Things (IoT) product or service providers.

Initial results of the companies’ collaboration will be demonstrated on the Ubuntu Booth (3158) at CTIA Super Mobility 2016 (September 7 – 9, Sands Expo, Las Vegas NV).

The combination of Quortus’ virtualized, disaggregated evolved packet core (EPC), with Expeto’s expertise in security, Platform-as-a-Service deployment model, and containerization and orchestration, creates powerful solutions for the wireless ecosystem. In particular, it enables a secure, trusted architecture at the edge of the wireless network with “IT-style” manipulation of traffic – essential for IoT providers and for enterprises seeking to optimize their use of mobile technology.

“Quortus and Expeto offer complementary technologies with genuinely disruptive potential for the entire wireless communications value chain,” said Ryley MacKenzie, Expeto CEO. “With Quortus’ carrier-grade EPC as part of our solution, we can offer the best of cellular and IT-style authentication and security, quality of service and experience; we provide the entire LTE / 4G core network through a Platform as a Service environment.”

Andy Odgers, Quortus CEO, commented: “We’re looking at a dramatic shift in the way LTE services can be deployed and managed, enabled by companies such as Expeto, which can embrace both multinational enterprise and telco environments. It’s a shift that will continue as we move towards 5G. The ability to simply configure network resources at any scale, from very small to very large, and to dynamically tailor network resources to service requirements, will completely change the way public and private cellular networks are used.”

Quortus’ EdgeCentrix (ECX) technology is the basis for a series of software-based cellular core network products that combine carrier-grade robustness with innovations that improve customer experience, enable new services, and reduce operators’ costs. ECX supports emerging mobile edge computing (MEC) architectures and ad-hoc network meshing, as well as VoLTE/SIP voice, packet data and SMS. The products already support many technologies seen as key to 5G evolution, including control/user plane separation (CUPS), dynamic network slicing and SDN architecture.

Expeto has integrated ECX into its Evolved Packet core Integrated Cloud solution (EPIC), a collection of containerized Evolved Packet Core (EPC) services, additional virtualized network functions and an advanced automation and orchestration engine. The complete solution can be deployed in an on-premise, hybrid or cloud environment and on COTS hardware. The architecture allows for commodity cost and scale implementations and service resilience and reliability.

About Quortus
Quortus enables flexible, agile mobile communications networks that provide a foundation for innovative services tailored to a diverse range of end customers. Its award winning EdgeCentrix (ECX) virtualized mobile core solutions help increase operator margin and ‘stickiness’. They interwork gracefully with existing mobile networks, with small cell and HetNet architectures and with standard IT infrastructure, to create truly integrated communications platforms. Quortus’ ECX products are highly scalable and can be hosted anywhere – in the cloud, at the network edge, or deeply embedded alongside a cellular radio in a single-chip implementation.

About Expeto
Expeto enables secure, agile and cost effective Enterprise IoT deployments. Drastically reducing the hardware, system integration and management cost dependencies of traditional LTE deployments, Expeto provides an “IT-focused” model for LTE connectivity. By providing a PaaS deployment model, enterprises and MNOs alike can now satisfy customer demands at an extremely granular level. This ultimately allows enterprises the ability to create LTE subnets and include LTE data within their corporate security policies.
