ISELIN, N.J., Sept. 30, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Middlesex Water’s (Nasdaq:MSEX) Carl J. Olsen Water Treatment Plant (CJO Plant) in Edison, New Jersey has received the 2016 Partnership for Safe Water’s Fifteen Year Directors Award of Recognition.  The Partnership for Safe Water is a program developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and associated Partner organizations to improve the quality of water delivered to customers by optimizing water system operations.

Middlesex Water’s CJO Plant was presented this award for successfully completing the Self-Assessment and Peer Review phase of the Partnership program and continually optimizing treatment for 15 years.  The Director’s Award includes a comprehensive evaluation of treatment plant operations and performance, identification of performance limiting factors, and the development of action plans to achieve optimization.

“Only a small percent of the nation’s utilities receive this award so we are very honored to be recognized and thank all of our dedicated employees whose efforts helped make this honor possible,” said Richard M. Risoldi, Vice President – Operations and Chief Operating Officer.  “Delivering a safe and reliable drinking water supply is a tremendous responsibility we take very seriously.  As a water utility, our goal is to continuously strive to optimize our operations and continually improve the quality of water we deliver to our customers. Being recognized with the Directors Award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to protecting public health,” added Risoldi.

The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary self-assessment and optimization program for water treatment plant and distribution system operation. More than 250 utility subscribers, collectively serving more than 100 million people, are committed to the Partnership’s goals of providing safe, high-quality drinking water through achieving operational excellence in water treatment. Partnership members participate in a rigorous four-phase self-assessment and peer review process, developed by industry experts, and are recognized nationally for their commitment to delivering safe water to their communities.
