HUBER+SUHNER to demonstrate essential connectivity solutions for the Connected Train at Railtex 2019

The company’s industry leading RADOX® enabled cabling portfolio is to be one of the many Connected Train preferred solutions on display

As rail systems develop and become more sophisticated, so do customer expectations. It is essential for operators to deploy solutions which are the most ideal combinations of technology for each application, and this is especially true in the ever-changing rail industry.

Utilising a combination of technologies and devices across radio frequency, low frequency and fiber optics, HUBER+SUHNER will showcase its essential portfolio to enable the Connected Train at Railtex 2019, 14-16 May in Birmingham.

From energy, signal and data bus cabling to the latest antennas for train-borne and train-to-ground communication, the solutions on display at booth G36 will provide attendees with a complete connectivity experience. The products that will be showcased include RADOX® cabling, the SENCITY® rail multi antenna, the RAILCAT CAT7 inter-vehicle gigabit jumper system and a number of wireless antennas.

“Safety, comfort and operating efficiency are the most important requirements that train operators need to achieve, and HUBER+SUHNER are proud to be able to deliver these requirements with reliable and intelligent connectivity solutions for even the most advanced train applications,” said Barry Larcombe, Sales Director at HUBER+SUHNER.

RADOX® – the benchmark for railway cables – has been designed to meet the increasing demands of today’s transport industry and is the main product that will be on display at Railtex. The product portfolio now includes RF and fibre optic cables, meeting the stringent requirements of fire safety standard EN4545-2. RADOX® cables offer the operator and train builder significant space and weight savings, with more than 40% achievable compared to conventional products.

Also on display at booth G36 will be the SENCITY® rail multi antenna: the first 5G ready antenna for mobile applications. The antenna masters the many requirements for Vehicle-to-Ground communication and can seamlessly provide an all-in-one wireless communication solution for all types of fleet. The omni-directional railway roof-top antenna is designed to meet the special requirements of railway applications; including high current and high voltage protection.

Alongside the SENCITY rail multi antenna will be the complete range of HUBER+SUHNER RAILCAT CAT7 inter-vehicle gigabit jumper systems including the RADOX® RAILCAT CAT7. Enabling an even more reliable data transfer, the IP-based broadband technology is ideal for the demanding environmental requirements of rail. Best suited for use as the backbone for railway vehicles, the CAT7 enables a reliable link to all connected systems and devices. It is available as 4×2×24 AWG and supports flexible routing thanks to its reduced dimensions.

Optimising the process of disconnecting and reconnecting coaches, HUBER+SUHNER will also showcase a number of wireless antennas to meet EN50155 railway standards and are fire retardant according to DIN 5540-2, BS 6853, NF-F16-101/102 and EN45545-2.

Larcombe added: “By delivering a complete portfolio from connector and cable to jumper systems and antennas, we truly are a one-stop-shop when it comes to rail connectivity. We look forward to demonstrating our Connected Train portfolio to industry professionals at Railtex 2019.”

Attendees of Railtex can experience the Connected Train with an augmented reality demonstration, as well as discover the entire solutions portfolio enabling the Connected Train at booth G36.
